How much Adderall should be consumed

Adderall belongs to a class of drugs called Central Nervous System Stimulants. The drug works by increasing levels of the brain chemical dopamine, which stimulates the brain.

Uses of Adderall:

Adderall is a recognized prescription pill primarily used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder in which the patients are impulsive, restless, fidgety, inattentive, and hyperactive. Both adults and children can be a prey of ADHD and the pill, Adderall is prescribed by the doctor for both adults and children. Narcolepsy is another however not-so-serious neurological disorder in which the tolerant loses control over their sleep resulting in an excess of day time sleeping. Adderall is hence considered a good match to fight this disorder as well.

Adderall IR vs. Adderall XR:

Both are just different versions of the same drugs “Adderall” containing the similar active ingredient. There are only a few variations between the two types of Adderall that are given in the table below.

Use of Adderall for ADHD in Children:

Adderall IR and Adderall XR (an extended-release version of the drug) is approved for children with ADHD of age 3 and children of age 6 and above, respectively.

Adderall dosage for children with ADHD:

Doctors start the treatment by giving the minimum dosage to the patients especially if they are still young and only increase the dosage or the strength of the pill depending on the patients need and age must be kept in mind as well. Adderall IR is usually recommended by pediatricians for the children with ADHD and are started from 2.5 mg of dose per day only. It happens very rarely that a doctor gives above 40 mg of Adderall to an underaged. Sometimes children above 12 are given XR but again the dosage and the strength are not very high. Children of age 12 and above are started with XR dose of 5 or 10 mg once a day. If doctor feels there is a need to raise the dosage, it is done on weekly basis by increasing 5 to 10 mg only. More than 30 mg of Adderall is not prescribed to this age group by any of the doctors.

Use of Adderall for ADHD in Adults:

Adderall also is an authorized drug for Adults with ADHD to use it. Adderall XR is generally more suitable for Adult use.

Adderall dosage for adults with ADHD:

Doctors start from the minimum dosage of Adderall IR and its strength is raised by 5 mg every day. The maximum dosage of Adderall prescribed to Adults with ADHD is 40 mg every day and above that is not prescribed to the patients in normal cases. If adult with ADHD is prescribed Adderall XR then the dose starts from 20 mg and the doctor takes it up to 60 mg by an increase of dose by 5 mg per week.

Use of Adderall for narcolepsy:

Both Adults and children with narcolepsy struggle to stay awake and to avoid sleeping at odd hours of the day and anywhere. In most cases signs for Narcolepsy starts showing at the age to 15 to 30.

Adderall dosage for Children with narcolepsy:

The starting dosage of Adderall for people of age 12 and older is 10 mg every day, the strength of which the pediatrician increases by 10 mg every week

Adderall dosage for Adults with narcolepsy:

Doctors using Adderall to treat adults with narcolepsy starts from giving about 5 mg taking it all the way to 60 mg per day (consuming every 4 to 6 hour).
